‘Enlightened National Politics’ for a New India

Dear friends,

The Jansatyagraha Samvad Yatra  is now in Madhya Pradesh after having covered more than 52,000 kms and 16 states. The Yatra team under the leadership of Rajagopal  P.V  has come in contact with a number of people's struggles on issues related to land and livelihood. In the process they have deepened  their understanding of the levels of deprivation and processes of excluding and marginalizing people from their traditional sources of livelihood like land, water and forests.

The Yatra team is also observing  a general sense of disappointment and depression with the current political system that is giving benefits of development to a few and depriving the majority. We think the time has come for us to think of a new political system that is based Mahatma Gandhi's ‘Hind Swaraj’.

We had the opportunity to discuss with Acharya Sachidananda Bharathi (Founder of Dharma Bharathi Mission & Dharma Rajya Vedi) at Nagpur an alternative political culture that he calls ‘Enlightened National Politics’(ENP). He has spent considerable time developing it conceptually. He also spent few days with the Jansatyagraha Samvad Yatra (Kanyakumari,  Dharmavaram, Nagpur & Bihar) to deepen his understanding of grassroots reality.

We think some of us need to get together to discuss and build upon ‘Enlightened National Politics’ to develop a collective vision for the new political system and evolve some strategies to move from concept to implementation. With this in mind, we are organizing a 2-day National Consultation with a select group of people at Haridwar on August 17th and 18th .

With warm regards,
Rajagopal  P.V
